Cliff
Clifton Schofield is a musician and composer with an emotional support weasel and a knack for narrowly missing fame. Now a guitar teacher and side-hustle jack of all trades, Cliff navigates life among bizarre HOA bylaws, students allergic to practice, and suspect advice from a mustelid.
Aunt Sophie
Cliff's favorite aunt, Sophia Kleinman, is a feared pro bono attorney who dismantles bad arguments with surgical patience and alarming calm. She lives primarily off royalties from a bestselling book she refuses to discuss and takes cases most people would rather not see. Public office keeps finding her; she keeps declining.
Darwin
Darwin is a Llamadoodle (Mini) that loves almost everyone at first glance. Outlawed in some states (and D.C.), the breed has been labeled woke due to a heightened sense of empathy and inherent dislike of authoritarian regimes. A natural fit for Aunt Sophie, he stays with Cliff and Hooks when Sophie travels.
Sawyer
Sawyer is a young guitar prodigy with an instinctive understanding of musical interpretation and the universe at large. Correctly cites Hemispheres as Rush's finest hour and is a devotee of Pinky and the Brain.
Heinrich von Shtupp
Heinrich von Shtupp is president of the HOA and may or may not have dubious ties to South America. He was installed by Leland Gast when he bought the property and was ordered to "clean house".
Chet Nutley
Foul-mouthed former classmate of Hooks that runs a lucrative shell game at the local park.
